During one of my manic experiments I compared uncompressed WAV files against FLAC, ripped from the same CD. There IS a difference and it ain't small. If you are hearing a difference then it must be down to the effect of the extra work on whatever part of the system is converting FLAC to PCM as afte...

I’ve had similar experience also - lost a port on the router (more than once) and the ethernet card in the PC. Everything else was OK... I now disconnect the network cables to important/pricey stuff if I know a storm is coming.

The SB Touch is not bad itself when it comes to sound quality - far from it really. You might get even better results if you buy a linear power supply for the Touch rather than a new DAC and LPSU for it. I'm guessing UHU PATAFIX is pretty similar to blue tack and you can get it in yellow.
