Re: Royd A7

Thanks, sounds like the way to go. I was kind of hoping that Dr Bunsen might drop by and point out that Joe Ackroyd was a genius and always mounted dust-caps askew, then smeared them all over with milky gunk (his being a genius and all). I am sorry to tell you that unfortunately “Dr Bunsen” won’t b...

Re: Royd A7

Latteman, thank you. Don't know the term for this but I imagine a cone has some kind of factored in residual compliance, assuming the extra glue compromises cone's ability to move back and forth etc., dust cap or no dust cap isn't all that glue an issue? These are small, inexpensive speakers (as yo...

I've lost count of the times I have been asked to provide in-flight maintenance. In practice there isn't much that can be done beyond the usual "switch it off, wait a bit, switch it back on".

Re: Distortion

I have quite a few used Nva amp boards I’ve collected over time for spares repair and general experience/ experimentation. I’ve successfully restored a pair with no blue smoke when connected to the psu- when connecting music I have a distortion in one channel only- there is music but with distortio...

Re: NVA Blog

Paul Forgive me but something doesn't add up. The national living wage is £11.44 per hour. If it takes 100, hours to make them, then the labour cost is at least £1144.00. Given a 2m set costs £600,00 per side, that leave £56.00 for materials and overheads. Am I missing something? Yes, Paul said 10 ...

Re: Compression

There is a place of judiciously applied compression, female vocals can benefit where a singer tends to drop the volume in some passages, trained singers are less prone to this so don't need compression. Speech can benefit but generally the problem with speech is that people either speak too quietly ...

Re: Compression

My personal gripe is with the universal application of Autotune to vocals. It seems that nothing can be released these days without a ghastly artificial processing on voices. Have people just forgotten how to sing properly or are they just not bothered? Probably the latter :snooty: I have a friend ...

Re: Compression

The Bluetooth/Spotify generation are the reason for the Compression - and they accept it as 'normal'. :snooty: Do they ever listen to live music? It is dynamic and this is part of the attraction. No need to go to a concert, just find a street busker. Preferably a street busker, compressors are used...

Re: Compression

https://www.itwriting.com/blog/91-the-loudness-wars-why-many-cds-sound-bad.html This article explains the problem very well. It must be around 15 years old and things have got worse since, where popular music is concerned. A friend who, in his younger days, ran a recording studio always told me, if...

Such a wonderful illustration of government thinking. Completely misses the point that he also reduced employment to zero too.
