Re: Modifying my 24 year old B&W P4

Nearly cracked it with these speakers  Close enough to know it's a goer, there are things to iron out https://i.imgur.com/HTSUC6T.jpg I decided to put them the right way up, as they were intended to be used. Right back to the wall which is how I remember using them until I started faffing wit...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

Quote "The 'sound' of bass also has lot to do with what is happening higher up. When an instrument makes a crisp snappy bass sound there are not just bass frequencies produced but also mids and treble because there are a lot of harmonic tones to go a long with the bass fundamental tone. Without...

Re: Modifying my 24 year old B&W P4

Back to familiar ground. Semi omni with mid bass up firing. https://i.imgur.com/SrhdhMA.jpg https://i.imgur.com/fc7mpYW.jpg That has tamed the mid range a little and the presentation is not so in my face now  I think I am so used to mid bass pointing up and doped that anything else is a bit o...

Re: Modifying my 24 year old B&W P4

Today's foolery has been concerned with my B&W P4 speakers. I put them on their sides with 6.5" mid bass forward firing and put the little sphere with 2" FR above it. Did this so I could get the two drivers as close together as possible. Xover is at 3.5kHz using the original inductor f...

"Yeah I'm blown away by the sb65's. The sound is solid and clean. I'm scrapping another build to do a fast with these using this woofer. Dayton Audio RS150P-4A 6" Reference Paper Woofer 4 Ohm It has a great midbass and transparent sound. I think a 500hz 12 db/octave active crossover should...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

Couple of quotes from diyaudio.com "I consider the SB65 the Schwarzenegger of tweeters. It has the high end reach, and can be crossed between 300-500Hz. " Crossing this at 300Hz with a first order might be asking a bit much of it. The above wax probably using second order and above. Distor...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

I read on diyaudio the SB65W needs 100 to 200 hours break in. Reports of the sound calming down considerably when broken in. I will wait for that to happen before playing any more with it. I feel I should be breaking it in with a full range 8f frequencies rather than crossed at 7kHz like I am doing ...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

As I listen quietly nearly all the time then why not design these speakers with a smiley face frequency response ? Elevated volume at low and high frequency will make it a good listen at low volumes (Fletcher Munsen curve). As normsl speech is about 60dB J don't think I listen above about 65 dB :sho...
