Re: Oiling a turn table bearing
Michell use a synthetic oil for their inverted bearings. I believe it is Mobile 1 (0W-40) motor oil. You need something fairly thick. It costs £7 for a small container (more than enough) but Mobile is £40 (discount) for 5 litres now. I should have a container of the motor oil somewhere and could se...

Re: Stager Silver Solids reworked
The transformer in the BMU needs to run in, give it a week to come on song musically. I still think you need to move your speakers. . . . . Doc Thanks for that. The front of my speakers are 1.2 meters from the back wall (about a quarter of the way out into the room - it's quite a big room). It's th...

Re: Stager Silver Solids reworked
No it means it is packed and I have to take it to Dartford. So Thursday delivery. And it arrived. It's bloody heavy - mind you, I didn't know what to expect!! Initial impressions are good. I assume it needs a bit of running in like everything else. However, it hasn't got rid of the upper mid band h...

Re: Life of Pi
No, that is completely wrong. Best value for money option for music listening I've had in 47 years in this hobby  Each to their own. I listened and took advice and you have seen my conclusions. Maybe right or may be wrong but it's where I am and I'm happy with it. What more can you ask? Have...

Re: Stager Silver Solids reworked
Cock up on BMU UPS didn't collect, hopefully tomorrow, but we have the gas mains up all down our street with big trucks sucking out the holes* and UPS couldn't get in. If they can't get in tomorrow I will have to take the parcels waiting to the depot at Dartford. * Been watching, bloody great truck...

Re: Life of Pi
Fascinating. I was thinking of getting into this area of sound but came to the conclusion that it was a lot of money for music I already had. Spent a LOT of moolah upgrading my CD player and amp. Apart from a few initial glitches, I've never regretted it. Interesting that the background in the 3rd p...

Welcome Steve. Hope you have a good time here. I took a while to get accustomed to the crew but I think I'm nearly there now.

Re: Stager Silver Solids reworked
The TIS go far lower than most interconnects what you are hearing is probably system set up, move your speakers further away from the wall. You probably had them that far back to balance that cable. Thanks for the advice. The speakers are set up according to the Audio Physic methodology and it has ...

Re: Stager Silver Solids reworked
I really must be going deaf here but here's my own take on any sonic changes over the first few hours. My TIS didn't have a 'sound' at all when I got it fresh from the Doc's soldering iron (I watched it cut from the drum, stripped and constructed...). The cheaper SSP2 offers the 'precision' and a s...
