Re: Corbyn is an evil upstart monkey........
Toilet rolls... I'm sure that many here may remember the great shortages in the mid 70s. In particular, sugar, toilet rolls and potatoes were hard to find.

Re: Corbyn is an evil upstart monkey........
DQ - really? Whatever. Classicrock, I pretty well agree with your observations. I know that Labour would like to blame the disastrous state of the economy in 2010 on the bankers. However, the public finances were heading horribly in the wrong direction well before the proverbial hit the fan in 2008....

Re: Corbyn is an evil upstart monkey........
Savvypaul: pretty well all taxation policy for starters, especially on direct taxation; pretty well all policies on taking any industries back into public ownership; I find a lot of the 'equality' stuff pretty vacuous too. I remain unconvinced that the NHS and education are hugely underfunded, with ...

Re: Corbyn is an evil upstart monkey........
"Which of Labour's policies do you object to?" Pretty well all of them! I loathe and detest socialism with a passion. And before anybody asks, our household income is significantly less than median UK household income. But we do not smoke, we drink very little, never go abroad, do not eat ...

Re: Music we listen to
Like Stu, I do not like musicals or opera. And like Quarknosis, instrumental music is more important than vocals to me. That said, I do like medieval music and pre-baroque era stuff. Pretty well most of the really early music is obviously religious, but some of the songs and instruments inspired by ...

Re: Music we listen to
I liked the Beatles when I was 10. But now I cannot stand McCantsing. And I really dislike Wings. And Oasis. And whiny vocals. In fact, I'm not really a fan of singing at all, unless it's choral or in a Mahler symphony (or similar).

Re: Music we listen to
Beatles, Stones & whatever one could get on Radio Caroline / Radio London - until the classical bug hit when I was about 14 or so. Big classical influences were Beethoven, Mahler, Vaughan Williams, Prokofiev & Shostakovich. Prog rock & electronica naturally followed from 1973ish, and the...

Re: Cubbets and sub
In my view, there's a difference between 'bass extension' and 'scale'. An active sub probably would add something in the extension department, but may not do much for scale. I'm returning to listening to more full bore orchestral music and even my modded Allison 6 speakers (think Cube 1, but with a ...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7
I could put out a challenge: will you finish your speakers before I finish mine? Mind you, my OBs mainly involve nailing some drivers to a few planks (OK screwing them to some plywood) and screwing some hinges on for the 'wings'. Then it's a case of configuring the miniDSP to roll the drivers off in...
