Re: Is class D Hi-Fi?

In the final analysis the question was are class D amps Hi-FI and given theirs no agreed definition of hi-fi it's obviously a question with no legitimate true answer. FWIW Nelson Pass believes the very best class D amps are good and improving at some pace and I think Nelson is a man worth listening...

Re: Is class D Hi-Fi?

Because World Class amplifiers by sound quality can be made / sold / bought for less than £3000. What "world class" amplifiers do you know that cost less than £3,000 ? And of that list how many have you actually heard, and if not who says they are "world class" ? Actually, what ...

Re: Is class D Hi-Fi?

And therefore the Rowland 925 should NOT be used as an example of competence by Rowland in terms of the sound quality. But it would be fair to hold it up as an example of competence in Veblen marketing. As NO ONE here has ever heard this Rowland 925, how on earth can any comment about sound quality...

Re: Is class D Hi-Fi?

And seems to know what Veblen Goods are. Is that meant to be a criticism ? If so, why ? $58,000 Rowland Model 925 amplifier? Let's put it to the test. Let's bake it off against - for example £2250 NVA M600's. My prediction is that the NVA wiil sound better. What's your prediction? My prediction is ...

Re: It's all been said before

Re music. I have been known to buy "job lots" of CDs on Ebay. It's great fun adding loads of new music to my collection for very little dosh. Some are duplicates of what I already have, they, and those that I genuinely don't like, go in a box for redistribution. Occasionally I find real ge...

Re: Quad ESL 57 buying advice, please

My memory has been jogged. The pair of ESL57 that I used to have had been to One Thing at some time, but I can't remember what they did, it was before I purchased them. Also, they did not seem happy with my 50W chip amp, better with my (modified) Quad II valve amps, and even better with my GK-71 (as...

Re: Valves. Hot air or something init.

Another thing, It's not uncommon for valve amps to use solid state components to heat directly heated valves and to drive the power valve.

My own 833a (GU-48) monster will have a solid state "power drive" stage to drive the 833a into A2.

So, does that make them "hybrid" amps ? :)
