Re: Hi-Fi Honesty

To answer savvypaul
It's great to see opinions voiced. What I hope to see is constructive comment - not telling someone, directly or indirectly, they've bought a piece of crap. That's demoralising for someone who's spent what for them could be a lot of money.

Re: Hi-Fi Honesty

If everyone thought, and listened, the same there would be very little choice on the market. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion without criticism. We should encourage helpful guidance such as suitable equipment pairing. For a hifi newcomer to read comments saying their turntable, or whatever,...

Re: Hi-Fi Honesty

I admit to being old enough to remember the first LP12s.
Any criticism of an LP12 and the reply was "It can't have been set up correctly"
I also seem to remember cheap Videoton speakers being paired with the NAD3020 for the "garbage in- garbage out" Linn mantra systems.

Re: Curiosity gets the better of me (again)

If my NVA amp goes wrong it can be repaired.
Whilst initially cheap to buy class D amps seem to be built as disposable items.

Re: Curiosity gets the better of me (again)

These class d amps are something i keep looking at periodically. Reason being that the f5 costs quite abit to run being an absolute room heater of an amp. The a20 i have is not the best choice for the big fane speakers because they are so efficient at 101db. A little bit of volume control movement ...

Re: Curiosity gets the better of me (again)

Re the "fatiguing" sound of class D amps: I use a small class d amp to power a pair of Klipsch speakers for TV sound. Okay for TV but not good for audio only. Connecting my Cesti MB speakers in place of the Klipschs is a revelation - much smoother. Putting the Klipschs together with NVA is...

Re: Curiosity gets the better of me (again)

I wonder how much better a class D amp could be with a decent power supply. Temple Audio offer an alternative power supply for theirs but it doubles the price.
