Re: Do low power amps sound better than more powerful ones?

My understanding is that bridged mode is likely to result in audible sonic compromises? Yes, that would be the case but the current trend is class D amplification where high power is considered necessary. Personally I would rather have efficient speakers and a lower power amplifier. I try to avoid ...

Re: House extension

Bales are something I have a lot of  . But I am not comfortable doing it myself and this is a diy project. Plus the wall might be a bit thicker than I would like. I love the idea of it though. They need to be straw bales, i used barley straw. The walls end up 1/2 metre thick which makes wind...

Re: House extension

I wonder whether your system was installed by an MCS accredited installer - they do have to be done correctly. Could you tell us more about your installation? The couple of thousand installs discussed in the video that I linked appeared to work and save people money if used as suggested. I installe...

Re: House extension

I have a straw bale house. A friend and i built it about 20 years ago. Not sure that 1/2 a straw bale house would work that well, especially if you aren't keen on plastering. The heatpump i installed for mid-season heating was almost useless, the foggy and very cold climate cause the external compre...

Re: Japanese Direct Drive Appreciation

My research seems to favour a Denon or JVC units with a few from Akai and some really rare Yamaha tables Please share your experiences and current DD set up- do u favour quartz lock or not? I've had 3 DD turntables, Kenwood KD650, KD750 and an Akai something or other. The Akai looks good, but no Qu...

Re: Passive vs powered pre amps.

There isn't any universal answer to the question of passive or active. It depends. If your amplifier has sufficient gain AND a benign input impedance AND doesn't mind it's source impedance varying AND there isn't a lot of capacitance between the volume control and the input device, then a passive wi...

Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards

So, is there any objection against using two dual 30v power supplies for the NVA boards in this set-up? With one 30v as in the original NVA AP50 the whole board gets the same 30v (before rectification) voltage anyways? I have looked at the parts and one one or two 47uf caps needs to go to 50v. 30V ...
