Re: Speakers
Coming back to the original post of this thread, Richard nominated NVA and Klipsch as 2 speaker brands that he likes. Would anyone like to nominate any brands that can be bought new today that they like in addition to, or to a greater extent than those 2? Preferably with a brief explanation why. Th...

Re: Speakers
Building speakers is great fun, and relatively easy-peasy (compared to other primary components). I see what you say, and I sort of agree, but (there's always a but) the difficulty is knowing what drivers to start with, and what the likely outcome might be. Actually chopping up sheets of chipboard/...

Re: Speakers
Building speakers is great fun, and relatively easy-peasy (compared to other primary components). It'll likely take a long time (weeks) to tweak the sound to your own system, room and ears, but that's an intensely meaningful and enjoyable process. I would encourage anyone with ears, time, access to ...

Re: Is the renaming of streets 'erasing history'?
Street names , statues , place names are all historical memoirs . They are however looked after by the present. Should the democratic will be they are changed , they must be changed. There is however a world of difference between a slave trader in the 17 and 18 century and being a peadophile in the...

Re: Is the renaming of streets 'erasing history'?
How do you keep a street name or a statue without inadvertently or otherwise honouring the person. The only way is to eradicate the name in the future. Hence the careful wording of the last sentence of me previous. I agree. Keeping / choosing not to change a name is an act of honouring something. P...

Re: Is the renaming of streets 'erasing history'?
The issue is pedestals, not statues nor even less history. I’d say naming a street after someone is an honouring; a pedestal of sorts. We should put our own values on pedestals, and not be bound by who or what our predecessors deemed worthy of honouring. Our successors will do the same 200 years fro...

Re: 4 way Frankenstein high efficiency speakers
I've just bought 2 x EV 1823 midrange compression drivers to go with the midrange horns I already have. Thanks for the update. Great stuff. I had never considered compression drivers till I tried some old Tannoy Eatons last year. I thought that overall the speakers were OK (though not well matched ...
Re: Boombox
Has anybody here ever built a speaker with left and right mid bass sharing the same backwave enclosure space ? Like some little boombox and Bluetooth speakers do. No. But my bass cab for low bass (cross over at 70Hz) does. In fact left and right low bass share the same speaker cone! :-D (Separate v...

Re: Turn up the treble
I like my porridge just right. I like clarity and separation but not distortion. I tend to agree with this. When I'm tweaking my own speaker builds, getting the tweeter attenuation absolutely goldilocks is a vital and lengthy (weeks or months) process. I think I've got it right and then I listen to...

Re: 4 way Frankenstein high efficiency speakers
My wife had bipolar disorder diagnosed 3 years ago. She has had it all her life What she has been through over the years with this condition is beyond the comprehension of someone who doesn't have it It is no fucking laughing matter. Bear that in mind next time a joke related to mental health is on...
