Re: Falcon LS3/5a

Isn't SME now owned by the same people that all but own Spendor now? Price-wise, Harbeth have joined the bandwagon and as with the Falcons, there really are people lapping them up.. The world's gone mad I tell ye... ;) https://www.stereophile.com/content/harbeth-p3esr-40th-anniversary-edition-loudsp...

Re: Falcon LS3/5a

Effin 'ell! I honestly believed the falcon 3/5A was around £1400pr, but for £2400? Someone's 'avin' a laugh for their pension fund - sorry... In the original model, the retail price wasn't profitable as they were such sods to calibrate and test - very labour intensive in the days when computerised t...

Re: Falcon LS3/5a

Sorry jammy. I hear the Falcons fairly regularly nowadays on admittedly solid state amps and dislike them just as much now as I did in the mid 70's. I'm alone in this it seems around and about as the local dealer loves the 'brightly lit detail' they have and sells a good few I gather... I believe Ha...

They should do if they feel it's genuine. That's up to 'us' I reckon.

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

Have you tried turning the cabs so the bass driver is further from the floor? A pal recently sold a pair of Goodmans Magnums with good drivers but shit boxes and despite their size, they did sound better balanced off the floor on low stands, as did most speakers like this I heard from the late 60's ...

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

I think the idea of wall tiles seems good, as the adhesive used would damp the wooden enclosure and the tile itself is very stiff and not prone to bending.

Re: Doc modding Marantz imperial 7

I was thinking yesterday (dangerous) why the 3 way semi omni design using the original Marantz cabs didn't work (yeah remember those ?). The small cabs on their own with just up firing 5" and front firing tweeter worked straight off. The cab volume is a little more than what they need so they ...

Re: SSP interconnects - buzz pick up.

If at all possible (and apologies for granny sucking eggs here), do try to keep signal and power cables apart from each other. I was always told they could cross each other at 90 degrees but 'separated' was best if this could be done.

Re: Cubes - question.

I agree. the BBCube and all Cubix models were in a different world to any of the smaller ones imo. I'd suggest the load is a pretty easy one, but using a CD source rated at 2V max output, I found the Cubettes and up to Cube 2's, always needed a higher volume control setting than an equivalent small ...
