Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards

Ok, so we are now a couple of months into life with the messed about with NVA amp amp boards with twin power supplies and built-in separately powered phono stage, so I thought I might try the single-ended pentode amp for a while. I let it warm up over a one hour time period before letting it loose o...

Re: Your last listen

Been going through some of my soul collection on vinyl and reviving some long unplayed albums: The Trammps - "The legendary Zing Album" (1975) Anita Baker - "Rapture." (1986) Heatwave - "Too Hot To Handle" (1976) Maze - "We Are One." (1983) Shalamar - "Fr...

Heads up for all you closet soulies out there: BBC Proms 20:00 - 22:00, Radio 3, Sat 15th July Stuart Maconie presents a Northern Soul Prom, live from the RAH. BBC Concert Orchestra. The potential for an absolute debacle is off the scale, but knowing Stuart Maconie and his respect for the music, it...

Re: Your last listen

Just watching a recording from last night, “ Greatest Albums Live” on Sky arts. Martin Fry doing ABC’s “The Lexicon of Love” at the London Palladium. It’s one of those albums that works even better live than it does on record. Back in the day it was one of those slabs of vinyl that made your stereo ...

Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards

Have done the finishing touches to the power supplies and have applied symmetrical RF filtering to the output of the input stage/VAS/buffer stage power supply. So both amplifier power supplies are now RF filtered at their outputs. As I've already said, the third supply is dedicated to the built in p...

Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards

I haven’t modded the phono board. It’s simply an NVA board built into an integrated amp.

Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards

I think we can now call this project finished. I tried three power supplies to the boards but it was more trouble than it was worth. However I decided to keep the three supplies and instead, feed the built in NVA Phono1 board with the supply fed by the toroid mounted vertically on the back panel. IM...

Re: Another DIY SS Amplifier with NVA Boards

Really pleased with this now. Lovely relaxed, detailed and dynamic presentation and even better now I have my Musical Fidelity M1 DAC in circuit. The M1 always sounded a bit hi-fi and soulless with my valve amps and the earlier versions of this amp too. However, now the NVA clone (still not sure wha...
