Hardly surprised to see that they have canned Discovery, the first two seasons were ok, but the third & fourth were so dire it wasn't true. Even by sci fi standards the plots were dreadful. A ship full of relics from 900 years ago rocks up, and they manage to solve a mystery that has flummoxed the best minds of that age for the last 100 years and all within 5 episodes, ok! Then the same bunch manage to learn how to communicate with beings that are really alien, this time pretty much in one episode, and they did'nt even have Uhura to help out.
I'm assuming the episodes re filmed to conclude the series involve them locating the supreme being and having a word with her about a few little gripes they may have...

Oh Lower decks and SNW are excellent, I hope they use any spare budget to either carry on with the Empress in Section 31, or give Jack and 7 of 9 a run in a spin off of Picard.

Re: Sci-Fidelity
Yes, to both of those. I definitely want to see more of Michelle Yeoh, and you can take that any way you like.
They should team her up with Ming-Na Wen from Marvel's Agents of Shield, Eureka, and Stargate Universe. What a Hell of a double-act that would be.

Re: Sci-Fidelity
The latest Corona-variant is a ba***rd to shake off, screws up your whole digestive system this time as an added bonus. Thus leaving me with as much energy as a slug and time to catch up on books & movies (if I stay awake long enough).
Some recommendations (and a warning...):
'I Am Pilgrim' Terry Hayes (2013)
Absolutely top-flight seat-of-the-pants unputdownable page-turner. Imagine any combination of your favourite spy/thriller/murder novels and this will fit right in there. My choice would be Jack Ryan/Dan Brown/Jo Nesbo in a 'Mission Impossible' episode.
Just finished this and my mind is still reeling. Super-complex and intricately-written.
Love it.
'Predestination' (2014)
Found this on Netflix. Guy walks into a seedy downtown bar and begins to tell his life story to the barman. Sounds simple? Oh no. You are drawn into a web of time-loops and (not) coincidences which unravel into a fascinating tale that had me pondering for days.
A smale-scale film with a minimal cast, this relies on massive performances from the two main actors who play their complicated roles to perfection.
Intriguing, touching and thought-provoking.
Phenomenal.
'Rebel Moon' (2023)
Netfix's long-promoted winter blockbuster, a Zack-Snyder take on 'Star Wars' (that's how is started out) that is a sort of 'Seven Samurai in Space'.
I really looked forward to this and had high hopes and expectations. The first half-hour is turgidly slow scene-setting with some gratuitous violence thrown in, it doesn't seem to improve much after that - I have given up at about 1/3 through and, when I find the patience, might watch the rest. The visuals are nice, though.
A long sit, expect to be bored.

Re: Sci-Fidelity
I read somewhere that the script/pitch for Rebel Moon was rejected by Disney - Lucas, given what they've done to that franchise this told me enough, haven't rushed to watch it, will give it a go but I'm not expecting much.

Re: Sci-Fidelity
Last night I watched a film that's set in a comic book, near future setting.
The end of the film features an old fashioned type duel. The ending of which makes no sense.
Because you have someone that's won the duel and been shot and what does the Second do? Does he have a top surgeon there on the scene, or just around the corner in case of such an eventuality, with a medical team and mobile operating theatre?
Bearing in mind we're talking about people with a lot powerful friends, wealth, influence. And someone that has displayed huge amounts of cunning and foresight in previous films in the franchise.
And the Second is the protagonists closest and most loyal friend?
No.
Having made this huge gaffe, does he ring 911 on his mobile as soon as the duel finishes?
No.
Does he see what he can to render some first aid to maximise the chances of his friend surviving?
No.
No. All he does is stand there, say some pithy lines and do nothing.
The photography isn't clear, but it looks like he might even walk away. To get his breakfast or something.
It makes no sense.
And this is a film that a lot of people has been saying is one of the best action movies ever.
When it is in fact a film where the key scene is total bullshit and makes no sense at all.
Who wrote the script for this? An 8 year old kid?
The scene would have been much better if it featured top medics on hand trying to save his life. Would they succeed or wouldn't they?
Edit I've just realised there's a spoiler option on this forum
