I have had a few active subs in the past for home cinema set-ups, they were silent with no signal cable, perhaps just a very slight hum at full level.Tim Catt wrote:Hey Doc, I apprecite that it is difficult to work out without seeing it. Unfortunately its buzzing even with out any cables attached to it. Feck.

Hey Doc, just a thought but tye sub's amp has really shit board mounted rca connectors and as I had just put in a new cable and then it started buzzing, could the connectors have fractured causing the earth problem? The rca connectors are easy tobremove from the circuit. Would removing them and turning on the sub be a method of diagnosis?

Each to their own although I can't see how a well made sub that faithfully reproduces the lowest frequencies and is properly intergrated with the speakers and the room its in can be unmusical. As you well know, even the best equipmant in the world will have major floors if incorrectly set up. It just so happens that bloated boomey bass is revolting to listen to. When the sound from the sub appears to be coming from the the stereo pair, you're onto a winner!Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote:I hate subs, unmusical nasty things

They are disjointed physically (separated) from the normal speakers and they are disjointed (separated) musically from the main music. An AV system is dsijointed anyway so it makes no difference.Tim Catt wrote:Each to their own although I can't see how a well made sub that faithfully reproduces the lowest frequencies and is properly intergrated with the speakers and the room its in can be unmusical.
