Crickey it has been many years since I saw this circuit done in the late 1960s by Mullard using Germanium Transistors. Shame it is DC Blocking and thus limited bass. The choke acts like a constant current so why not use a semi conductor constant current circuit and make it lighter and have a better power range? A Class C yes Class C circuit was also done like this in 1970s in the Elecktor mag, it was also bridged out put Ideal for in car stereo.
It can be done so imagine it.

This is my version and DC coupled and DC offset of less than 1mV, BW 5Hz - 100KHz flat
