Cool! Looks great, well done!

A long time ago (well, 16 years) I wanted to build a transport too. At the time there was a mech called CD Pro 2 from Philips that (in those days) didn't cost an arm and a leg. I bought one, plus a DIY controller kit and built a case around it using the Schaeffer CNC panel maker.

The theme was a spaceship look using the wine bottle stoppers as legs. It sounded very good. Not long after I'd built it I discovered Slim Devices Squeezeboxes and so in fact it was very quickly retired and has sat on a shelf ever since. You've given me a boost to bring it out of retirement and give it another try. It needs a bit of repair though since my hinged lid has some unglued.

I'm struggling with the image, is that visible to anyone? The link seems to work but not showing in the post for me.

I must dig out my CD rom based player, if I can remember where it is.

And following on from the CD transport I built a DAC to sort of match it, again using the bottle stoppers and schaeffer metalwork. The DAC consisted of the TDA1541A DIY build from Pedja Rogic (forerunner to his AYA DAC) and the buffer amp from Hawk Audio MP-DAC.

Image

Later, I turned the "DAC" into a streamer by gutting a Squeezebox receiver and connecting it into the DAC chip via I2S through a reclocker. That's how it has stayed for 15 years...

Sorry to hijack your thread! You just reminded me of the fun experimenting and building this stuff. It is very addictive and easy to get sucked into more and more "improvements". Lol

Really interesting stuff. Do you have more pix of the building?
I think I might be in the HiFi trade.
I am not currently seeking treatment for this.
