Re acrylic sheet in A4 size (210mm x 297mm) in 5mm thickness, one supplier I looked at on Ebay was £6.15 inc post for gloss black.
Other sizes and colours are available.

You need various sizes and thickness, depending on your design. . The point was all of it for two 300x210 mono amps was £42.
From plastics on line. They cut to any size you want.

Re: DIY doesn't save you money
Cheers DQ. I have a very old pair of A80s I am thinking about repairing & updating as next year's project. I would like to try and use acrylic - that said 8 new caps will be over £300 so I need to think it through before throwing money at them.

Re: DIY doesn't save you money
Have you ever priced up 20 mm black acrylic for speakers ? Good job I was sat down when I did . Saying that, 21mm baltic birch ain't cheap either. I found some Latvian 18mm locally which is quite a bit cheaper but I don't know how good it is til I see it.Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Fri Dec 04, 2020 6:48 pm You need various sizes and thickness, depending on your design. . I never did beyond 15mm.
And £300 quid for caps. You're kidding aren't you. It's a power supply and I'm in the camp you cannot tell the difference.

Different caps do perform differently, and they do sound different.
We selected Vishay caps for...
1. Sound quality in listening comparisons
2. ESR rating
3. Long life - up to 10 times the hours of some very expensive caps

Each to thier own. Purely on sq grounds, I've been unable to hear a difference.
Also I fail to see the difference between a power supply capacitor and something else in the power circuit. Say a fuse or power cable.

I doubt this will make you change your mind but I found it interesting and because music DIY is new to me some of the prices when I looked them up were frightening.Daniel Quinn wrote: ↑Sat Dec 05, 2020 8:30 pm Each to thier own. Purely on sq grounds, I've been unable to hear a difference.

As for hearing the difference, I have had the opportunity to listen to test kit, identical apart from the caps and you have to trust me on this, the difference was not subtle.

Re: DIY doesn't save you money
My biggest diy improvement in psu was the dc supply to my turntable- a toroidal transformer and a Chinese variable lm317 lm337 rectifier greatly improved speed control & hence I was able to hear sound quality improvement- in vocals especially as well as stereo image
