When Dr Frankenstien put his monster together, did he use the brain of the village idiot, the feet of the village leper and the ears of Beethoven?
I thought they were 15"ers, but I have been wrong before. All I know is that they loved Bob Marley!
I think I might be in the HiFi trade.
I am not currently seeking treatment for this.

Well that second plot for the dynaudio looks bloody awful to me holes in the response all over.

Why would you want a huge nearly 10db peak at 100hz?

I would be rather wary of that plot having any meaning. Its not as simple as throwing money at a driver and shoving it in a box, or in a baffle, i'll keep my 15" fanes, and watch with interest

I don't want an 8 db peak at 100 hz. That's why I've bought the Altec 414's. To fill in the area from 150 hz to 600hz.

What I really don't want is bass extension as lacking as the LS3/5a. Which is so bad that the bass drum and reggae style bass guitar is filtered out.

I might subjectively be happy with anechoic bass extension as mediocre as the Dynaudio 30's. If room reinforcement comes to the rescue. Or I might not. In which case it will be back to the bass drawing board.

I think that from 200 hz upwards, speakers are about as simple as buying the right drivers and shoving them in or on a box. I think that there's a large pareto to this with 80% of the sound quality being down to choice of drivers.

I'm expecting to spend a total of about £1300 on the drivers, £100 on wood, £100 on crossover bits for this project.
If I were in a hurry I'd have my set of drivers already and would have spent £2000 to £3500 on them.
If I were to spot certain squawker horns that I've been looking out for, I'd be willing to pay up to about £300 for a pair of them.

The drivers should all be non-depreciating items that could be sold for about what I paid for them, should I ever wish to do so.

Once you get to 14 inches, you ought to be able to get away with being flippant about such details, I think.

Assuming they're front or rear firing, when you get to 14", you are no longer in the realm of slimline speakers.
You've moved from the Kingdom of WAF to the Republic of DGAF.

14" drivers would be a recepie for divorce.

Size is not everything when it comes to bass extension as I have recently discovered. The three Sboosters which now power my digital source components have had the subjective effect of enabeling the10" woofers of the Cube 1s to produce bass depth which was not there before. The change is anything but subtle and the music has a greater sense of authority. An app I have downloaded shows the frequency response is flat down to 95 Hz with only a sliight roll off down to 65 Hz. After consderable run in there is no over hang or blurring what ever I am playing. The Cubes have remained as close to the back wall as possibe allowing for toe in. Because of the shape of the room the listening position is quite close. Clean power makes a considerable difference to bass extension without compromising the look of the room.

The Cube 1s are 8" drivers - but they do sound bigger.

As far as speakers bass is concerned. Size is everything.
