I had what I thought was a collapsing suspension - the cantilever was nearly in the groove- all sort of adjustments didn’t help in a final fling I cleaned it then ‘oiled’ the suspension- this actually helped for a while- the end solution was to remove the body and use it naked for better clearance

Did it sound any better with the body removed ?

It’s hard to say exactly what changed- I didn’t dislike it and it was different- I could say more detail and an increase in sound stage were my initial thoughts
It’s an interesting experiment
Ortofon mc are the easiest - 4 clips and a wiggle.
In another story I’ve just ordered a wood body for my Nagaoka mp

Nothing theoretical about the deterioration of drive belts, I had to scrape the goo of the flywheel of my tape deck and the pinch wheel of my Tascam 38 had to be replaced for the same reason. Both had been in the lounge, a relatively stable temperature. I also had to remove the hardened belt from a Pioneer PL12D also stored in relatively stable conditions.

Obviously neither is a suspension but I can't be sure that suspensions use significantly different materials.

Do the people on this thread understand the meaning of theoretical and empirical ?
.
We are talking about cartridge suspension , using the example of anything but cartridges is theoretical .

With what material would you construct the suspension of a cartridge that does not deteriorate with age?

When I worked , I was a lawyer , not a materials specialist for Ortofon.

As a lawyer , I am conversant with the value of facts. There aren't any in cartridge ageing from what I can see.
