Am I correct in thinking that quality sound reproduction is appreciated more abroad than in the UK, especially where young people are concerned.

Yes. Italy seems to be a hot spot. The Far East is like here in the 1980's.

Could the bbpsu be built with options for 4 and 2 umbilicals ? This would provide a different upgrade path from phono 2 to 3. You could use the p2 with a single bbpsu then change to a p3 followed by bbpsu no 2. Alternatively, p2 to p3 using the p2 psus then upgrade to the bbpsu x 1 or 2. I hope this makes sense !

Changing P2 to P3 and hooking up the two existing power supplies makes most sense (but one PS will have to be modded to provide extra output). Depends if that will provide a significant sound upgrade.

I have. P2 with 2 x psu. Both psu have twin umbilicals so a jump to a p3 is straightforward. The big leap is going from 2 x psu to 2 x bbpsu. If the p3 could be rum from a single bbpsu then there is more flexibility in the upgrade path.

Stemcor - Blimey even more complicated - you will end up with two spare leads when you upgrade to 2 BBPSU. These will not be XLR but more beefy plugs for use with BBPSU due to the potential charge current flow on plugging them in, So if the BBPSU is used with either P2 or P3 it will have to have these plugs fitted so will have to come back for it. I don't like the idea of these spare leads from the BBPSU hanging loose around to short out against anything. No problem with standard PSU, but could possible create problems if it shorts to an earth with the BBPSU. So I will have to say no, and it makes things too complicated. Plug change is between types of power supply. It was the original reason I wanted to stay with the BBPSU only with P3, but I will give the options as quoted.

As standard P3 will have the new plugs and P2 has the XLRs

Rocky - depends what you call significant, in my estimation it is worth it.

Now you mention that the connectors have to be changed I think a straight swap for P3 and single big PSU makes more sense and easier to achieve for min cost.

Bugger me - everyone stop confusing everything. I have just posted that P3 cannot be used with single BBPSU as explained in my last post.

1 P2 / one PSU
2 extra PSU
3 Send P2 back for conversion to P3, run on the two PSU
4 Send P3 back for new plugs, plus the two PSU for trade in for two BBPSU

OR

3 Alternative of keeping as P2, but back to me for new plugs, plus the two PSU for trade in for one BBPSU
4 P2 back to me for conversion to P3, buy one more BBPSU

These are the only two upgrade paths that make any sense. I am beginning to wish I hadn't started this.

Thanks Doc. I was not aware of the differences in plugs for the p2 and p3 (probably in a post somewhere but missed by me).

This is now clear and makes sense.
