Andy-831 - have you experienced the same thing then?

Folks, thanks for all the comments and suggestions so far. Seems like I need to be far more systematic in tracking down the pesky little culprit. However, at least I know it's not related to component proximity with my kit, so that in itself could save a lot of potentially wasted time in repositioning kit.

I was getting a variety of noises when I originally set it up (mine is MM so may not actually be as sensitive as yours if its MC)

Clicks, pops, phone type noises and motorboating were the sort of things it was picking up which I knew were not coming from the house as the HI Fi is on a dedicated radial to the music room.

I took one of my turntables up to Savvies a couple of weeks ago and his normally silent Phono 2 Started to pick up noise because it was fairly close to the big old lumbering 240v motor in my Garrard. On that basis I have moved the head unit away from all the main transformers, motors and incoming internet router and it seems to have cured the problem (The tinfoil was my earlier attempt at a Faraday Cage which did improve it too so might be worth a try)

In fact "Chopsaw" was up here all day yesterday for a music session and he is quite sensitive to "noise" and never mentioned it so it must now be quiet.

If it any help I had interference which just appeared and eventually I tracked down to the wall wart power supply for an ethernet switch. Replaced that and problem sorted.

In my case it is sky tv q box.

Absolutely nothing I can do except turn it off at the mains which would be okay but it means they can't watch sky in the middle room.

Same here. There are several reports on the Sky forum. There used to be a workaround in the box settings but, according to the forum members, it was removed a few updates ago.

I have home plugs, I can hear them in the hifi room and the conservatory. As in airborne hear them, like a high pitched warble right on the edge of my hearing. The odd thing is, there's no electrical apparatus other than lights in the conservatory and in the hifi room the speakers are silent. Unplug the homeplugs and the noise goes. I have absolutely no idea what's radiating it in each room.

I did actually make a mental note of how quiet your system was when playing records Andy. I have to say that since your rearrangement your system sounded the best I've ever heard it and I've heard it a lot over the years!

Hmm, no Sky box but we do have a Humax box. Anyone know of any issues with those too?
