Berty I have two Humax boxes a Freesat and Freeview sat on top of each other both sat above the Hi Fi maybe 30cm -40cm away.

I did not actually track down my problem to a specific item of equipment so they could well be contributing.

Turn it off and see if you get an improvement?

I did actually make a mental note of how quiet your system was when playing records Andy. I have to say that since your rearrangement your system sounded the best I've ever heard it and I've heard it a lot over the years!

Cheers Si if you have a spare day week commencing 5th November we could have a re run, let me know how your fixed Pal.

Good call, Andy. We watch less and less TV through it now anyway so it shouldn't be too traumatic to turn it off for an evening and do some concerted listening...

I only experience it when playing vinyl - Phono2 MC. Just unplug Sky box.

No effect if Sky box is on when playing digital.

That is good to hear, don't play a lot of vinyl but usually have the tv on when playing music. I presume the Phono 1 is less prone. The hifi, apart from speakers, is situated a good way away from the Sky box and router.

One question - when people are referring to their Sky box being 'on' do you actually mean powered up and receiving a signal and/or just on standby? Just wondering whether it will actually require unplugging my Humax box to properly test it as the cause of the interference.

First round of more concerted diagnosing last night - I think I've narrowed it down to either the wi-fi (re-)router in the lounge and/or the Humax box itself. Those two and the TV and DAC for the TV are all plugged into the same extension at present. Unlugged everything then replaced one plug at a time. Easy enough to turn everything off at the mains when I'm having a listening session and, frankly, that's probably the simplest fix. If I can be arsed I might nail it down more precisely but for the time being I'm happy to have narrowed it down thus far. Thanks for your input, everyone. BB

My guess would be the Wi Fi Router.
