Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote: Thu Dec 20, 2018 12:53 pm Yes he has a low voltage transformer as I have found them best. So I now match the secondary to the low point in UK mains as so many people seems to be over voltage. I have one guy consistently at 248v. I am aiming now for 215 / 220v for 240v in. If you order primary and secondary to be the same then you fall foul of the regulation which boosts out voltage by about 10v.

If that is the problem I can swop for a higher secondary voltage one as I can do 120/120 or 115/115 or 110/110 or even in extreme cases 100/100. It is almost becoming me sorting out the voltage feeds being all over the place.
I thought it was bullshit but Russ Andrews may be having similar issues. Just got the latest catalogue and he is sending measurement equipment to anyone purchasing his latest BMU to determine mains voltage so they can be individually tailored. BTW the latest RA product appears to be borrowing from NVA ideas ?

A chance post on ASR shows a particular Metrum NOS DAC with severe response spikes at 40k and 80k - ish. The level of these spikes is way above distortion level in modern amps and the 'noise floor' in the background is more than many amps.. I know, it's just graphs and may not mean anything and these frequencies can't be heard by humans, but there's plenty of discussion there regarding NOS DACs and the compromises involved above the CD limit of 21khz or so.

Metrum have ceased trading and I wonder if the issues reported in this thread have something to do with it and NVA amps are not the only ones affected. It would seem that the company went down hill in recent years and this is connected to the designer leaving and setting up his own company.i

Most amps have filters, so I doubt it.

I used a Metrum dac for a couple of years with my NVA amps and had no problems.

The designer leaving (and customers following them to the new company) sounds the most likely cause, to me.
