Connecting cable

Unread post by tweet_my_ribbon »

I have a device (Brennan CD ripper) that can link to the NVA P20 using a short piece of cable with 3.5mm jack to stereo female phono sockets;

So from the Brennan output socket sits the cheapo cable pictured which is connected to NVA SSC interconnect. The link cable does seem to reduce the sound quality even though the line out from the Brennnan is variable.
My question(S) is;
Would a fixed (short) 3.5mm/RCA phono improve things and/or gold plated connector ?

Seeking knowledge and ideas from the wise ones here. :idea:
NVA amps, speakers, interconnects & speaker cables produce the music.

With help from Technics, Audio Technica, Jelco, Hana, Musical Fidelity, Sony, Cyrus & Soneteer.

Damnit, put this in the wrong section. I had a daft idea in mind of NVA making a one off connector for this very situation.

I have a similar situation connecting a P20 to a Chord Mojo 2. Instead of a cheap cable I use an adapter, bought from Future Shop, which does the same thing. SSP connects the P20 to the two female phono sockets of the adapter. I think you would find this an improvement.

That cheap wire is 'strangling' the output SQ.

Better would be this sort of thing (AudioQuest adaptor on Amazon):

or a higher-quality cable fitted with 3.5mm/RCA plugs.

I use a dap which has a 3.5mm jack socket output and Richard was happy to make up a lead with 3.5mm stereo jack plug to 2 RCA plugs into the amp. I sent him the 3.5mm stereo plug to save him having to order one in specially.

I bought the audioquest adapter and it has improved sound quality. :grin: The Brennan is currently holding 3000+ tracks and pressing the 'random' button plays a constant stream of music. Shellac, Borodin, Can, British Sea Power, Andrea Parker, and on...
The sound quality from the (variable) line out of the Brennan is no where near the quality of a stand alone CD player although it is quite listenable and I'm hearing music thats not been played in years. Ooh, Blue notes six vital organs... nice.
