One of the best tweeters ever made! Expensive to build. Originally his AR design when he worked at AR as design / production manager.

Ah yes, AR3a & AR2ax are some of my favourite "classic" speakers. It's a pity the cats out of the bag now though... I recall buying my mint AR3a's 8 years ago for £25 ! Lucky if you can get some knackered AR4xa for double that now.

Acoustic suspension bass reproduction is unparalleled in the domestic environment IME, it just sounds so "right"... Those fella's really knew what they were doing back then.

Well they did up until the time they were taken over by Teledyne, after that they were run by ad men, marketing men and general suits who didn't know their arse from their elbow and they killed it in the end.

The three good 'uns went on to do other things. Henry Kloss - KLH, Roy Allison - Allison, and #1 man Edgar Villchur went into designing better hearing aids. It has never been said but when he left AR his hearing was deteriorating.

All very interesting ! I've had some of the Teledyne era stuff [AR18 & AR94] they still sounded very capable but were using exactly the same technology as the 60's models... No new innovations or idea's as you say, just cheaper vinyl wrapped chipboard cabinets to lower the costs.

I also have a Tivoli Henry Kloss radio which is very cool 8-)

I've been able to take some early 70's speaker review scans today and the AR3a was one of them (Hi Fi Sound). I'll get them sorted out and post it up if anyone's interested.
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way...The time has gone, The song is over, Thought I'd something more to say...

It is just bullshit by people who think they know something. Why do people think magazines opinions are worth diddly squat, especially from those days. If you want good accurate opinions then ask the people who own them.
