Linn not exhibiting at this years Bristol show says a lot. Two years ago it was obvious to anyone with ears that systems costing a fraction of the price in other rooms out performed the LP12 and the Linn streaming system. They still featured in the brochure maintaining that Linn can't be beaten for sound quality. If so why not exhibit?

Having owned a standard and then later modified LP12 and the original Rega P3 and recently a Planar 8 with an Apheta2 and then 3 cartridge I wouldn't return to either brand because there's a lot better for less money and fwiw although I don't own one I think the Origin Live TTs are really well thought out TTs without the inbuilt flaws of Linn or Rega TT's.

The last few times I've heard Linn systems at hi-fi shows, I've thought the sound was decent. The price to buy it was indecent.
There seems to be a certain Linn house sound to their modern gear. A bit dry, but with unfocused bass at the same time. Reasonable focus in the midrange and a saccharine sweet treble. But not quite there when it comes to ultimate realism. So that it seems like you're listening to a reasonably good hi-fi system. Instead of it sounding like actual musicians are there playing actual instruments in the room.
Their speakers seem to be the biggest letdown in all Linn systems. With some of them being embarrassingly bad. And shockingly bad for the brand new retail price.

If Linn made matches, each match would be made from a solid billet of either rainforest hardwood or a wood-resin composite.
The phosphorous mixture would be held on with a grub screw, tightened to 200 newton-metres of torque.
They'd take 8 hours to machine and require Linn to invest in special cutting tools and months of R&D.
They'd be priced at £4750 per hardwood match. And £8750 for each special anniversary edition composite match.
