They took the numbers tattooed on the arms of gay men gassed in the Nazi concentration camps. The pink triangle being the symbol that was tattooed on their arms as well to show them to be gay.

There are a number of stories about this, in an interview AK says they toyed with the idea of not naming the turntables at all , but giving each turntable a individual name based on an individual concentration camp number . Thus you would have PT 814569 and PT 8146987 instead of 2 PT TOO's . In the end they bottled it , as far as I am aware serial numbers are sequential .

No they actually did it. The first show they did was a Heathrow (not sure of the year) and I had room, went to their room and they were telling all and sundry about it and really acting the gay evangelists, they got on a lot of peoples nerves, including Linn of course, who at the show developed what should have been just a bad taste joke but some Linn evangelists took it seriously - "don't use a PT you can catch aids from it".
