Re: Dacs
I've got one of the good ones......apparently. Lost in the depths of a pile of hifi scrap somewhere. I never got round to modding it. Maybe one day. I hate surface mount components with a passion.

Re: Dacs
A question I have on DAC's is that I'm sure I've read somewhere, someone reporting that USB is not the best connection for sound quality.
If that's the case what is the best connection? Or a better connection?

Re: Dacs
It depends on the the implementation. In my experience, Coaxial, Toslink and USB can all sound excellent...and can all sound bad.
As an example, when I listened to a Cambridge DAC via USB, I thought it sounded poor. When I listened to the same DAC, in the same system, via Coaxial, a few minutes later, I thought it sounded decent. But, it was the opposite way round with the Chord DAC that I owned.

Re: Dacs
I have noticed that too on Cambridge DACs, SPDIF coax sounds bettet than USB. On Chinese units like Teradak and Topping the USB is sonically superior.
In my experience a properly implemented USB link will provide a more musical experience.

Re: Dacs
Problem with USB sudio is that the datastream is prone to jitter and a lack of timing synch. Reclockers / regenerators help a lot and quality cabling does make a difference.
Also the USB bus in a PC is electronically noisy and often busy performing several tasks together.
