@phychoanima From my experience with dac's and pretty much all hifi, to seriously improve on a component you have to spend more, so I would suggest you start saving to improve upon your E50. I've never heard the Deafrips Ares, but from what I've read could be what you are looking for, they do come up 2nd occasionally I purchased one of these at a good price http://soekris.dk/dac2541.html which I can highly recommend.

Thank you @antonio66

I was also lookin at this dac:

Not too many reviews around, but it is praised for its neutrality and crossfeed function that gives analogue vibe to the sound.

psychoanima wrote: Thu Jun 09, 2022 12:51 am Bummer that Teradak prefers USB, I was thinking to start with Chameleon, and when I decide to get R2R to use Chameleon for listening CDs while R2R is feeding with streaming files.
The Chameleon is optimised for USB but still sounds terrific on SPDIF.

Teradak DAC's give automatic priority to USB - input overrrides any SPDIF signal.
There is a switch on the back that selects either coax or optical input.

Seriously, the Chameleon is a really worthwhile unit and nothing else under 500 pounds is going to get anywhere near it.
Be careful what ChiFi you buy - I have had one or two dud products.

Best price (I can find) for the Chameleon is direct from Teradak,
460 dollars including shipping.

One to consider under £500 which is British is the Chord Mojo 2. Don't be put off by the small size. Sounds very good in my second system in desk top mode.
Main System
NVA BMU, P90SA/A80s (latest spec), Cube 1s, TIS, TISC(LS7)
Sonore OpticalRendu, Chord Mscaler & Qutest, Sbooster PSs
Network Acoustics Eno, ifi iPurifier3, AQ JB FMJ, Cisco 2940 & 2960
DH Labs ethernet, BNC & USB cables, Farnells cat 8 ethernet cable

Second System
NVA P20/ A20, Cubettes, LS3, SSP, SC
Sonore MicroRendu, Chord Mojo 2 MCRU PSs, AQ Carbon USB cable & JB FMJ

Headphones
Grado SR325e/Chord Mojo, Beyerdynamic Avetho/AQ DF Colbat

RIP Doc

I've never heard of that brand, and if you have never heard that dac, you are of course taking a chance, not that there is anything wrong with that since I've just purchased some speakers that I've never heard before or seen any reviews on. Going with Fretless' option may prove to be a safer bet if you don't want to spend too much in trying something else.

FWIW whilst Denafrips state their Dacs have a NOS option in truth they don't. All Denafrips DACs use over sampling and there is a Golden Ear YouTube video that I will locate and post up that clearly demonstrates this. That said, my Ares2 was very good and my Pontus 2 is a little bit better.

Indeed and in the final analysis that and it's relative affordability is why it's so popular.

And I am looking if there's any second hand Teradak to buy, and there is none. This dac is either super good that no one wants to sell it or super unknown :D
