Still faffing over which power supply to get for it, I'm tempted to try a power bank, but really don't know enough about them to jump in. I'm not going to go mad as the unit only cost £45 in the first place.

Just get a wall-wart with the right barrel connector to start with. The streamer needs 0.5A but a bit more won't hurt.

I have a Chifi LPSU from Weiliang (via AliExpress) works a treat, cost 25-30 pounds.

Aha - that's what I was thinking of, until then I gather that Apple wall warts are quite well regarded so we'll have a play with that.

Finally hooked up a laptop to my system- it’s a basic Lenovo with WiFi only- there is the occasional drop / stutter
I’ve been using an iPhone 6s as my streamer but as Apple are dropping support I am looking for a replacement.
I’m not interested in a specific made streamer so it has to be mini fanless pc.
There are so many to choose from- I require advice- basic needs are- Ethernet, hmdi, usb out & ability to use a Bluetooth keyboard/ mouse.
I did also consider PlayStation/ Xbox- anyone using either?
Cheers

A Raspberry Pi4 or Asus Tinkerboard S have all the requirements you listed.
Various operating systems and can be controlled remotely via a phone or PC

Drop / stutter is probably caused by the wifi link - wired ethernet should fix that.

Interesting idea and I've never tried it - do have a USB CD/DVD rewriter attached to my laptop and I could try it with the Tinkerboard or a Pi. Might be a fun experiment this weekend.

I thought this might be fun to try; an Uptone Audio USPCB A>B Adapter.

I've just picked one of them up on eBay to try between the Schiit Wyrd and my Oehlbach XXL Master Clock. As people say that the best cable is no cable at all, I thought I'd find out if it's true.

It can also be used to switch off the 5v USB power to the Oehlbach.

Question regarding Volumio, I know Mr Fretless is using Volumio to control his pc and I was thinking of doing the same, getting rid of Windows 10. When this is done one cannot use the internet, so what if there is an update, how are you to get it? For now I am still using Foobar 2000 but have turned off wifi since everytime there is an update I am unable to play my music. This has happened three times, the last a few days ago, took me 2 days to sort it. :angry-fire:
