Recommended CD player repairer?

Unread post by Ordinaryman »

Has anyone here used or could recommend someone to repair my roksan Kandy MK3 cd player (roksan no longer support it)
Had it for years and enjoyed it so don't really want to just get rid of it for spares or repair.
Any ideas? Thanks

Possibly a case of is it repairable ?

Have you any idea what the problem might be ? (ie what does not work)

thanks for replies, started off not reading some discs (few months back) so opened it up cleaned the lens and blew out internals, (not the laser)with tin of compressed air. All good, worked fine. Now does not recognise any disc at all?

Probably needs a new laser head, then.

Most (good) hifi shops have a repair service - you might try taking it to one you know in your area.

Your probably right, but not sure of "local repairers" just wondered if anyone here had used and could recommend someone. I have all the original packaging and don't mind shipping.

There is a variable resistance screw on the laser assembly- it increases voltage and can sometimes give it a ‘kick start’

Problem is that just turning up the laser a tad to get it to read is abit of a bodge at the best of times, something else has failed which causes the laser to need turning up. Its likely to be a sony kss drive iirc, it should be possible to get hold of a new drive for it, but it would probably need setting up with a scope to check the eye pattern.
Where i live there is a small local company, a one man band who mainly fixes tvs, (hes done mine) but can fix pretty much anything, so there are people out there who can do this kind of thing, who arent necessarily hifi dealers.
Try the yellow pages for a local electronics repair company, or ring a dealer in your area to see if they are willing to look at it
