That clamp looks good and appears better made than the one I have.

The knob and grip of the Dynavox clamp are plastic, so I wonder how long that will last. We'll see.

I managed to trash the Grado Green stylus - that'll teach me to be more careful.

So. There is an 8MZ stylus (entry-level for the Signature range) here and I had it on the Logic for a while, do know that it is a sonic upgrade.

No time like the present and in it goes. Immediately there is a new sense of sharpness and clarity, the 3D effect is more tangible. Also I have switched off the low-cut filter as this stylus has a far tighter control of the bass-end.

A year ago I was running the best possible digital rig that I could conceive of. Now a basic TT is running rings around it - the world is mad.

It certainly is mad with opinions and set ups being so divergent. The enthusiast who visited me earlier in the week did not appear to have any vinyl set up. His source is Spotty and CD, which I'm sure would not sound as good as your digital set up, through Spendors now retailing for little short of 6K driven by Exposure amps.

I certainly won't claim that ANY of my several TT or Digi rigs are the ultimate in purist-audiophile quality, but they are enjoyable and satisfying to me.

Having never really been one for measurements or specs, what matters is the involvement with the music. Emotion, feeling, being. It's a drug and when you have experienced it, you just want MORE!

Holy schamoley! This is sounding very fine. Even a battered 2nd-hand copy of SEBTP is shining on this deck.

Had to switch the rumble filter back on but the ART phono is still giving Mike Rutherford plenty of low-end presentation.

Buggered stylus - fortunate accident.

On close inspection of the Amazon photos this looks pretty well identical to what I have, apart from the logo.

Cambridge Alva Solo MM phono stage - any good?

Word on the Web is that it has the edge on the Schiit Mani (which isn't available at the moment, anyway).
Shouldn't break the bank either.

What are u searching for with a phono stage?- like most I’ve had a long list of stages including several valve, the best of which was the Les carpenter modded Yaqin MS23B then Croft.
The Mani was good too but the Nva still my go to stage
There is an older Nva pre power on eBay with built in phono stage like u already have if I remember

As I have an NVA phono / PSU in use, that is perfect for my main system. What I am looking for is something that will give me a more 'refined' performance with the Pro-Ject (roughly equivalent to a Rega P2) and is affordable (up to about €200).

The 'Cambridge sound' is appealing to me and I can get hold of one fairly easily here.

Can't find that NVA amp on my Ebay - might be UK only.

I liked musical Fidelity phono stages- that is refined- usually via their integrated amps- the x ray was uninspiring
