A smart TV gives you sky arts ,MTV and also access to Spotify etal . Also movies with 12inch woofers.

The long and the short of the article is that without a decent DAC, amp and pair of speakers you will not hear the benefits High Res and CD quality bring, the gap between compresed music and CD quality being greater than between CD quality and High Res. Therefore High Res is superferlous as far as the mass market is concerned and is just a marketing tool. I would add that it is also lost on peronal audio without a plug in DAC and decent head phones.

I have always scoffed at sound bars. I run the tv through the hifi some of the time, the benefits vary depending on what is on.

I like what I like. I dislike what I dislike.

I don't like TV through my hifi, but a sound bar is needed these days because flat screen TVs don't have sufficient body for even voices

I don't crave anything more from TV

What I expect from vinyl and hi Res digital, is different.

Others will feel differently. My response was to your post that no one on a hifi forum would use a sound bar. I do.
