It is however incorrect to call it fake
It is 100% correct to call CCA based Cat 5e cable fake.
The standards require full copper. No ifs, no buts, no arguments.

I'll ask one question then Lindsay, my brother has a Sky router, I believe it has two outlets for ethernet cable, one goes to his tv set up and the other goes to his custom built computer which contains storage and Roon. Are you saying a switch should be inserted between the router and his computer, or are switches only used when you need more outlets?

Switches are used when you need more capacity, or when you are into hi-fi and the music files are being passed over your home network - streaming. With it being widely reported that adding a switch or 2 improves the sound quality for streamed (over the network) music.

If you don't need the capacity - the extra ports - and you're not into hi-fi or you're old school analogue and CD's only, then a switch would be a waste of money.

The other situation in which a switch or 2 would be worth it would be if you're a computer geek type and you want to move data within your home network at speeds faster than 1 gbps. In which case the right kind of switch or 2 might be worth it.

The same thing applies to whether you should get fancier cables than cat 5e.

Most ISP supplied routers have 4 copper (RJ45) ports on them.

I have a Sky router and encountered a problem when I bought my first Cisco switch. For some reason I had problems connecting with my streamer. This was solved when I connected my Sky Q box directly to the router again. Everything else runs through the switch.
