Advice on a pair of A40s

Unread post by PenguinTunes »

Hi all.

I have a pair of A40 monoblocks that I haven’t used in a year or so. (Limited space, young children, change of music listening habits etc). I’m wondering whether to box up & store away for another day, or sell on. They haven’t had a huge amount of use & are in excellent condition.

I wonder if there is much interest if I were to sell on, & what they might be worth to someone. Any thoughts?

I also have a couple of interconnects & 5m pairs of NVA speaker cable. (Unsure of types, or how to identify. I seem to recall might be by sleeve colour?)

Assuming full working order and no cosmetic defects...

A40 monoblocks - the last advertised new price of these was £500 but many were sold at less than that, so I would think around £250.

We offer an inspection service which can be used by buyers or sellers: https://nvahifi.co.uk/pages/pre-owned-inspection

For the cables, send photos or at least let us know the colour of the heatshrink.

For what it's worth I would suggest boxing them up and storing them. In the past I've tried other makes but then come back to NVA. So unless you know you're giving up hifi for good or you need the money hang onto them for some future time when circumstances change. After all, you can guarantee that if you wanted to buy new ones in the future they'll cost you a lot more.

Are they mk1 or 2.?

The latter has a taller case with heatsink on top, so more desirable imo.

Good point, my estimate assumed MK2

Hello. Thanks very much for all the response. I’ll take a look at the kit later.

Hi. Sorry, bit of a delay in being able to take apart the room!
So the amps are mk2. I have two pairs of speaker cables with white tape. They’re 4m long and split at the speaker end. Seems my pics on the iPhone are too big - will add later

Images attached.

I have a couple of interconnects too. How do I identify them? They have slightly different terminations at the plugs - one has a coil connection, one has the tape.

The white band on the speaker cable usually denotes LS5.

Are the interconnects different thicknesses? Or is that just a trick of the camera lens?
