An S150 returned from the Netherlands with the buyer claiming that it was a lot less 'exciting' to listen to than the AP50 that he borrowed from a friend.

I asked him what cables he used with the AP50 (as he bought new cables and P50 with the S150). Turns out they were a twisted high capacitance design. So, the 'exciting' sound he liked was oscillation, and he was lucky that he didn't fry his friend's AP50.

We are now landed with a £40 non-refundable fee from Paypal for the pleasure.

Refund everything but ebay fee. Then they have paid to listen to it for 30 days. Assuming you have taken the issue with ebay

Put in the description, none sales will attract a lone fee if bought on ebay.

Sold via website. Paypal changed their T&Cs around a year ago. They used to refund their fee if the purchase was cancelled / refunded, but now they keep the full amount, regardless, even if the customer cancels the order before the items are dispatched.

It's just part of the cost of retailing. Frustrating, though.

Had to tell a couple of EU customers, this morning, that we can't give them a guaranteed price on orders that we build in January as we still don't know if tariffs / customs charges will apply come 1st January.

You can probably expect customs charges - but then the question is, how much?

You could sell for the same price to them as to UK customers. Customs fees and taxes are to the buyers. It's the sames as if I order something from US. The postman collects the customs fees and taxes at delivery.

They are waiting to see what happens. They have said they will not pay tariffs / charges. If there is a free trade deal, they will place an order. If there is no deal, and tariffs apply, they won't buy.

They had thought that if they placed the order now, then it wouldn't matter that the items won't be shipped until January. Sadly, doesn't work like that.

That's true. But it's not in your hands. If they really want your good stuff I'm sure they'll even order in case of a No Deal Brexit and accept to pay the charges.
