Could it be a solution for that problem if Tomasz would build the full range in Poland for the European Market and not only cables including having a branch there?

Tomasz has a small workroom in his house where he can make cables and repair the odd item. Full production would need dedicated premises and duplicate stock holding. That's a very big pile of additional costs.

Remember that Richard kept NVA annual turnover below the VAT threshold. Takings of less than £85k a year just about supported Richard to carry on NVA from his rent free bedroom, it wouldn't scratch the surface of the costs of having dedicated premises in 2 countries.

We have considered moving production completely to Poland.

That would give easier access to Toroidy transformers.

A problem then is import taxation to the UK. But how would that work for a UK-registered company?

So the same problem the other way round? Where to do you sell the most? To the UK or to the EU?

We have to see what happens post 31/12. Tomasz is the key to NVA. After Richard died, Tomasz paid his own flights to come back from Poland to finish items and sell off remaining stock for Nadia without being paid. When I purchased the remaining assets of NVA, I told him that he would 'inherit' half of NVA in 3 years on the understanding that he would work an average of a couple of weeks every month in the UK for at least that period. He will, eventually, want to be spending most time where his young family is, so in the longer term that means him working more in Poland and less in the UK. There are a number of possibilities about how we could split up / replicate production.

At the moment, I don't take any money from NVA, and I provide a rent free, dedicated premises. Aside from Tomasz taking a living wage, all surpluses are re-invested into strengthening the company and developing the brand. Stock of components, development of new designs, website, marketing. In a year or two's time, I will be happy for NVA to stand me a nice family holiday each year - but, otherwise, I will keep re-investing to make NVA better and stronger, and ensure that Tomasz is set up with a good standard of living and a worthwhile pension.

You can't be richer than to have the freedom to do the things that you want to do and that you care about. But, that is not the point. The point is to demonstrate that NVA will get the funding and the commitment it needs to be competitive and sustainable for the long term.
