Laurie Anderson & the Kronos Quartet 'Landfall' (2018)

Image

'Enigmatic' is probably the word that best describes the oeuvre of multi-disciplinary performance-artist (and Lou Reed's widow) Laurie Anderson. This album is the result of a unique collaboration with the genre-bending Kronos Quartet and tells the story of how Hurricane Sandy ravaged the Caribbean in 2012 leaving a trail of disaster. 'Landfall' consists of a flowing assembly of 30 short pieces describing the pains of loss and the unbreakable human spirit that arises to face any challenge.

By turns poignant and magical, this is a record that demands your full attention and carries you along in its narrative. For the audiophiles this is a superb Nonesuch recording and will sound wonderful on your mega-stereo setup - although you will be too enthralled by the music to notice.

Future Days is good. Just finished listening to it on vimeo. Can are a band that would've been on my radar to collect the back catalogue, had I heard them when I was younger. First heard them in my early 30s. So many bands, so much good music. There's still tons of krautrock, prog and psych for me to hear. (Hawkwind, Motorhead, Porcupine Tree, Ozric Tentacles and loads more psych/prog/rock were big faves in my 20's, not to mention all the gigs.)

karatestu, what do you think of the drumming in EGE BAMYASI ? If you've heard it that is. I like the way he slows down on one of the tracks. Although my fave drumming takes place in a live recording of Gong at the German berg herzberg festival in the late 90's. and now I'm thinking of Twink and his drumming on the think pink album - heavy and such a graeat lead in for the guitar. Pure rock. A couple of tracks on think pink really are heavy and should be listened to at Motorhead volumes. (Wore ear plugs to one of their gigs, Brixton academy, coz i saw them once too often.) Bloody hell, slightly off topic and not a drop of beer involved.

Yes, I have a few Can albums including Ege Bamyasi. I find Jaki's drumming to be very syncopated and hypnotic. I admire it very much.
