Johann Johannsson 'Fordlandia' (2008)

The realisation that music feels different on vinyl has led me to search for more recent releases that have the potential to touch my soul.

This lovely 2LP edition of 'Fordlandia' on 4AD comes with a sticker that proclaims "A work of astonishing beauty" and guess what? It is. Inspired by Henry Ford's failed project to create an American workers paradise in the Brazilian rain-forest, the music moves from serene to forlorn with instrumentation both electronic and acoustic.

Working my way through Johannsson's vinyl catalogue on both 4AD and Deutsche Grammaphon, the works of this too-young-departed genius acquire a depth of sensation that I haven't found in the digital versions.

Astonishing beauty. Oh yes. :pray:
