Arcade Fire - The Suburbs (2010). Went to see them when they toured this album. Sound engineer needed sacking. Huge arena though.

David Bowie - Man who sold the world. God this album sucks. The only good song is the title track and that is a cracker.

I think it is one of his best albums. Certainly the heaviest along with the Tin Machine ones twenty years later. The dark foreboding lyrics, resulting from his half brothers mental health issues and what he was reading, are the perfect accomanyment. Bowie was very much distracted during the recording by his intamacy with Angie, hence, lyrics aside, the Jeff Beck influenced Mick Ronson taking over a lot of control. Producer and bass player Tony Visconti was not happy with Bowie's lack of profesionalism and jumped ship to colaborate with Marc Bolan when T.Rex swept to prominence. He would reunite with Bowie from the Berlin period.

Two years ago this month I saw The man who sold the world performed live in its entirety by Holy Holy with the two surviving members of the band. Ziggy Stardust was also performed in full. It was quite a gig. shortly before his death Bowie endorsed this band.

Funny how we can have very diferent views about it. My wife bought it 20 years ago and she's not bothered about it either. About once a year we give if a play just to see if it grows on us or we had got it all wrong. Nope, it won't get played for another year.

Having a bit of a David Bowie week myself. Wonder if its got anything to do with the dark evenings as his music does seem to suit the mood.
Todays choice is 'Low', probably one of his best and most influential. Incredible to think the guy recorded 11 studio albums during the 70's plus collaborations with Iggy and Lou Reed. No wonder he needed all that coke.
Not sure what to choose for tomorrow, I've done Station to Station and Scary Monsters so far.

You could always continue on the trilogy with Heroes and Lodger. Or full reverse from the Station with Young Americans and DD.
Kevin.
