Marillion 'All One Tonight' (2018)
Recorded live in the Royal Albert Hall, the long-running Marillion are captured here in a 2CD collection with the first disc an energetic run-through of the complete FEAR album and the second CD forming a wonderful trip back through some classic numbers assisted by a small orchestra.
If you like the Hogarth-era material then this album is a must: passionate, sensitive and with a truly awesome band playing at top form.

Re: Your last listen
Saw them on that tour in St David's Hall, the Cardiff equivalent to the Albert. The Albert pub being just down the road. It was a good concert but the strings got drowned out at times. A similar set but only the New Kings from Fear. Probably because they had played the whole album in full on the previous tour at a different Cardiff venue.Fretless wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 10:00 am Marillion 'All One Tonight' (2018)

Yup, it was just the double CD. Oh well, no great loss, and at least I've got a spare now.Andy-831 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 6:58 pmslinger wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 4:27 pmI've got the "Jackie Leven Said" album he did with Ian Rankin (a favourite author -- and I haven't only read the John Rebus Books ) Is that the one you're thinking of?Andy-831 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 10:26 am Slinger have you got Jackie and Ian Rankin "Again", my favourite ever live album and quite a thought provoking story. Ian and Jackie giving a stunning evocative but funny performance telling the story of a Fifer returning to Fife for a Funeral. Well worth a listen if you don't already own it.
Andy
While I was looking for that pic I came across this:
"Jackie Leven Said: A Double CD Release Of Storytelling, Laughter And Music by Ian Rankin" which is also described as a hardback book.
Whatever it is, I've ordered it.
I'm sure it'll be a nice(?) surprise when it turns up. Hopefully, it'll be an actual book of the stories, and if it's got a couple of CDs tucked inside it? Bonus! For under six quid including postage I'm not going to argue.
Including the above, one album, as Sir Vincent Lone, and one as David St Field, I've got 14 of Jackie's albums. You might have guessed that I quite like his music.
After beating being unable to speak for nearly two years due to being assaulted and near strangled, his heroin addiction, and the booze, bloody cancer took him in the end.. Life definitely ain't fair.
Yeah that's the one, the first CD is Jackie and Ian chatting and then Ian tells the story interspersed with songs between "chapters," by Jackie. The second CD is Jackie again.
The man was a tremendous talent and most definitely completely underrated and undervalued, I love his voice tone, reminds me quite a lot of James Grant (ex love and money frontman and solo artist).
I have never counted but I must have in excess of 10 Jackie albums, hey if that book turns up as a book then give me a shout and I will order a copy although I suspect it may be the double cd.

Re: Your last listen
Dream Theater 'Awake' (1994)
It is a short hop from the stirring grace of Rush to the overpowering techno-prog of Dream Theater. 'Awake' was their third (studio) album and the sound is already fully-formed: polyrhythmic drumming, walls of interlocking guitars and impossible basslines. Topped with the confident singing of James Labrie. Keyboards are functional rather than dominant.
DT are never just about assault and battery though, they know how to write a good song and get moodily subtle when necessary.
