Voces8 'Winter' (2016)

Image

The cold winds blow down from the North and bring a calm serenity that has carried me through the hectic, tension-laden COVID-Christmas period.

Well-regarded and one of the UK's top vocal ensembles, Voces8 here work their way through a selection of predominantly Scandanavian, modern compositions with a sense of otherworldly grace that simpy lifts your spirits to a better place.

Highly recommended. :music-listening:  :music-listening:

Yes 'Drama' (1980)

Image

It has taken a while to get hold of a decent vinyl copy of this (the first one I got was hopelessly warped) but it is well worth the wait.

Quite probably my very favourite album from the Yes catalogue, the absence of Jon Anderson allows more focus on the instrumental abilities of the Squire/Howe/White axis. They are here joined by The Buggles, who have since made further contributions to the band's history with Geoff Downes holding down the keyboard seat in the current lineup and Trevor Horn being primarily responsible for the stylistic revolution that would occur on the next Yes recording '90125'.
'Drama' is the point where the 70's meet the 80's and opened new doors for Yes; it remains a glorious addition to their oeuvre.

A great, high-energy rock record full of sonic surprises and well-crafted songs.

Love it!

The George Benson Cookbook. Third studio albulm released in 1967 and produced by John Hammond. Benson really is a killer guitarist and this album like his other early works would all sound right at home in the funky Blue Note jazz Catalogue (it's on Columbia though).
