Johann Johannsson 'Viroulegu Forsetar' (2004)

Johannsson's second solo release was an hour-long ambient piece, the title of which translates as 'Honourable Presidents'. Instrumentation is primarily provided by a brass section who layer repeating motifs in a web of sound that rises and falls like a glacial tide. Eno must have been jealous.

There is a hard-to-find CD/DVDA release but the double LP has been reissued on Deutsche Grammaphon, only watch out that you play it at 45 rpm - I didn't spot that at first and it sounded amazingly ponderous and deep at 33 1/3.
