Beth Hart - War in my mind
I set a course just east of Lyra
And northwest of Pegasus
Flew into the light of Deneb
Sailed across the Milky Way
On my ship, the Rocinante
Wheeling through the galaxies
Headed for the heart of Cygnus
Headlong into mystery
The x-ray is her siren song
My ship cannot resist her long
Nearer to my deadly goal
Until the black hole
Gains control

RIP Doc

Found the 'Enhanced' version of Mike Oldfield 'The Songs of Distant Earth' going cheap. The obsessive completist collector in my head insisted that I get it.

This version is from 1995, only a year after the first, original 1994 release which has the cover below. The
newer second version features a CD-ROM layer with graphics that is only playable on an Apple computer (which I don't have).

Since its initial appearance, this has always been a huge favourite of mine. It is an album based on a sci-fi classic by Arthur C Clarke about mankind travelling to new worlds. The music is a sweeping, dramatic, lush recording that carries you along on a glorious atmospheric ride. It is also, probably, the most heavily synthesizer / electronic album that MO has ever made.

What I didn't realise was that the second version sounds quite noticeably clearer and more dynamic than the original edition. I have long awaited the appearance of a remaster and it was there all along! The EQ is different and there might be some changes in the mixing.

Anyway, a much-loved album has suddenly got even better.

He was 75 yesterday. Age discrimination could be mitigating circumstances.
