Trying to restrain myself from buying up every LP I have ever owned and ditched - and it isn't easy. So I have given myself a ground rule - it has to be an album that moved me, that provoked an emotional response, one that found a place in my heart.
Scouring Discogs for those lost friends, I find maybe one or two by a seller and then, to fill out the packaging and get some extra mileage out of the postage, I chuck in a cheapie or two that are also available. One such 'extra' is Simple Minds breakthrough release from 1982 where they started having hits like 'Promised You A Miracle'. Their albums before this had been eclectic and more experimental but this turned on a lush, layered production with a smooth but exciting sound. Mysterious and accessible at the same time.
All together now: 'Someone, somewhere, in summertime....'

Here’s a fun way to test your speakers for annoying peaks in the lower treble region.

There is a lot of surface noise on side 1 - especially around the start of 'Promised You a Miracle', which the original owner must have played a lot. Side 2 is very clean. In general the vinyl has a fat, roundness to the bass sound that the CD never really recaptured.
