GlassHammer - Dreaming City (starts out good then middle going into this EMS VCS3 electronic fill (like "Run" track on Dark Side of Moon) and this horrid female-vocalist-driven soft poprock shit.)

One of my "go-to" Summer records that nobody's ever heard of.

If anyone remembers Keith West - Excerpt From A Teenage Opera (Grocer Jack, Grocer Jack...) he's the singer/guitarist and main songwriter on the album, and the rather tasty lead guitar is courtesy of ex-Family/Animals guitarist John Weider. Oh, and the bass player is Bruce Thomas, who played with Quiver, the Sutherland Brothers, and Al Stewart in the early 1970s and later joined Elvis Costello's Attractions.

America, Seals and Crofts, Ducks Deluxe, The Brinsleys. Those sort of vibes. Sunshine Music.

Used to like Grocer Jack, or excert from a teenage opera. Ed Stewart used to play it a lot on Junior Choice. It is on a 60s compilation I bought the other year.

Ultravox 'Lament' (1984)

Image

Don't ask me why - but I seem to have entered an Ultravox phase. Possibly triggered by all the early 80's LP's I'm playing at the moment.

This was Ultravox's last album with the 'classic' 4-piece lineup as drummer Warren Cann would leave shortly afterwards. Their elegant mix of New-Wave synthetics, tasteful Classical colourings and chart-friendly songs is again in full display here.

Now to see if anyone on Discogs has a stack of Ultravox vinyl going cheap ....
