Yellow Magic Orchestra ' BGM' (1981)
Had this on cassette as a teenager and now am hearing for the first time as an LP. This is one of those albums that sticks in the memory and is often played in all sorts of circumstances.
YMO were the Japanese equivalent of Kraftwerk and created a uniquely oriental form of synth-pop. This record mixes intriguing experimentation with catchy tunes and is a great listen.
The starting-point for Ryuichi Sakamoto and this band also collaborated with Bill Nelson.
A must for synthesizer fans.
