“I’d like to be more in tune with other people’s feelings… so I can pinpoint their weaknesses and go for them more effectively when I do.”

“There’s one good reason for horror films, it’s an opportunity for intimacy between teenagers. It’s ideal because if you take someone to see Saw 2, anything you do to them afterwards will seem like a treat.”

“The Daleks: devoid of all emotion except hate. They’re like Piers Morgan on wheels.”

“I hear voices. But I ignore them and just carry on killing.”

“I like the bonfire thing. I had to take the RSPCA advice quite seriously because they said you should check under your bonfire for sleeping hedgehogs. I couldn’t find any, but luckily I had some in the freezer.”

”‘You got your bag for life?’ Too bloody right I have. Now fill it with vodka or fags. I’m ironic. Let’s see who goes first, me or the bag.”

“I’ll tell you one thing: I think Nasa killed Michael Jackson. He died the same week as the anniversary of the initial moon landing, of the first moonwalk. They resent the fact that any time anyone puts ‘moonwalk’ into Google or anything, it comes up with him sliding backwards with a hat on and not the billions they spent going up to do a moonwalk. They hated that, and they killed him.”

“I don’t like the Queen. I think it’s absurd that we have a queen. Basically what we’re saying is that we’re no more sophisticated than bees.”

“For me, shoes are just a barrier between dog shit and my socks.”

RIP Sean Lock

Tweeter is overflowing with clips. Most remain wonderfully irreverent and funny even though I know them off by heart

It's funny how it is not a surprise to you, because it is to me . I only put that as the opposite to melodrama.

Ive never actually bothered to watch a brechtian play.

I liked Sean Lock's vagina shaped shit routine from the 1990s. He should have done it more often...

R.I.P. Don Everly

Don Everly, one half of the rock’n’roll duo the Everly Brothers, has died at his home in Nashville at the age of 84.

A spokesperson for the family confirmed Everly’s death with the Los Angeles Times, but did not disclose a cause.

A statement from the family said: “Don lived by what he felt in his heart. Don expressed his appreciation for the ability to live his dreams … with his soulmate and wife, Adela, and sharing the music that made him an Everly Brother.”

This is one of my favourite Everly Brothers songs, "The Stories We Could Tell," from their album of the same name, which I think is one of their best. I sang this a few times at folk clubs. The lyrics stand up when sung solo, but they're much more... I'm tempted to say "powerful" but that's wrong. Their truth resonates more - I think that's it - as a duet. It was written by John Sebastian, of "Lovin' Spoonful" fame.

So, it was written by one bloke, who was in a band, and it illustrates the life of the duo that was the Everly Brothers perfectly, That's class. The late, great, Tom Petty did a pretty good version too.
