Beth Rowley at the Lantern, Halifax. Just Beth and her guitarist doing tracks from the latest album. Interesting to hear the differences in presentation of the songs. Then three songs with Josh Flowers who was the support brought lots of new textures to the music. Finally, an accapello, unamplified version of 'Nobody's fault but mine' (from her first album).

Saw UFO on their 50th anniversary tour. One of my favourite all time bands who i have seen more than any other. Another great night but tinged with sadness because this will be the last time with Phil Mogg calling it a day. Just glad that bands do not retire at the age I did as it would mean very few live listens.

Stranglers (Established 1974) O2 Academy Leeds
A bit of a Trigger's broom group. Jean-Jacques Burnel and Dave Greenfield still soldering on. Baz Warne doing a very passage Hugh Cornwell on vocals and guitar but them blasting out a set which was all the classic stranglers stuff with one or two newer songs in between and them and the audience enjoying it all immensely - which is what live is all about. Mybe I need to dig the old vinyl out.

Dr. Feelgood as support - I wasn't sure whether to go off to get some Status Quo or George Thorogood after that set.

Saw the Stranglers a year ago and it was a good night. Different venues on this tour.

Bob Mould band at the Electric Ballroom

Very tight performance from terrific musicians that ripped through a set from early Husker Du to his latest solo stuff.

Accomplished guitar playing as well, from one of the godfathers of post-punk melodic noise making

Went to gig with four bands, The Quireboys, FM, Bad Touch and Vega. Although the Quireboys headlined I thought FM, whom I have seen headline previously, had the edge. But I thought Bad Touch whom I had not heard of stole the show. I will be investigating them.

Nick Harper, 58 Fordwych Road Tour (Hebden Bridge Trades Club).

Not the usual Nick gig where he just gets up and does his stuff. This time there is some stage dressing. Apart from the banner, there's a chair a table, a lava lamp and a box (all apparently from 58 Fordwych Road.

And some stories. There's a theme about the accoustic guitar - how it developed, how it became a popular instrument, and how it was used for musical development. He plays the first part sat in the chair on a £150 guitar which is apparently sold at each gig - the point it that it was/is a musical instrument that's cheap and versatile (and a clap in the face for people afflicted by GAS because the sound he makes on that guitar is distinctly Nick Harper!)

Then there's the place. That's where he spend his first years with his dad and where the place became the 'after party' for people playing at Les Cousins.

Then there's the people - on the banner behind him - Davey Graham, Bert Jansch, John Renbourne, Jackson C. Frank, Roy Harper and Sandy Denny. He plays a song from each of their repertoires (2 each from Davey and Burt) and talks about them. The renditions are distinctly Nick Harper's - as you would expect - and give something of a new take on each piece.

Second part was more like the usual Nick - and the guitar with Piano strings and banjo pegs. But for the end, he switch back to the 'bog standard' guitar and ended - which I would never have guessed in a million years - with a rendition of 'Moon River.'

All in all a bit of a tour de force.

Going to Lets rock Leeds 80's festival today :guiness; . Headliners are Status Quo. May favourite is probably going to be From the Jam . Seen them before. Only Bruce from the original line up but they sound just like the real thing.

Gonna be sunny and looking forward to the refreshments :guiness; :guiness; :guiness; :guiness; :guiness; :guiness; :guiness; :guiness; :guiness;

Saw From the Jam last year and they were very good. Enjoy.
Last saw Status Quo a few years back on a frantic four tour. That was quite a gig. Not really Status Quo now, in my opinion.
