I would rather sandpaper my eyes and then let Nigel Farage spit vinegar into the sockets than watch Eurovision.

For the first time in several years I sat through the entire Eurovision Song Contest Final and actually rather enjoyed it!!! There were a few highlights like the excellent choral singing from the 6 ladies from Czechia and also Estonia and Lithuania were very impressive, even the entry from Belgium was rather fun.

What I liked the most was Australia's Voyager who turned in a half-decent Rock song with a high-octane performance - now this is a band I want to hear more from.

Ah yes, that well-known part of Europe, Australia. Along with the infamously European Israel of course.

Had the heads up about voyager on Planet Rock prior to the contest. They were described as a shining light in a celebration of mediocrity.

The last time I watched it full Sweden also won it. That was 1974 and the winner had talent.

The novelty of Ukraine being at war with evil Putin's Russia has worn off.
Seems a bit rude not to vote them to win, just because the war is 15 months old and not 3.
It's like their war has become normalised. But my understanding is that the death rate is just as high now as it was a year ago.

The UK entry was embarrassing. Easily the worst of the lot.

A lot of the songs deserve to be heard without the huge amounts of dynamic compression.
Sadly max dynamic compression is de rigeur due to all the people watching via crappy built-in speakers on TV sets, as well as nobody adjusting volume between songs and therefore any dynamic entries would sound too quiet compared to the others.
I'm not planning on buying the CD of the event as that will be wall to wall dynamic compression.
There was also quite a muddy sound to a lot of the backing tracks.

Sweden had a worthy winner. Although it was pretty much a repeat of her previous winning entry.

I thought the humour at this year's event was a bit tame, apart from the country-representative in the bowler hat and silly glasses.

Overall, Eurovision is a reminder of so much that is rotten about the Music Biz in 2023.

Finland won the public vote by a large margin.

I'm guessing that the panels are made up of Graham Norton types. The sort that can handle poppy numbers, but can't handle rock music.

I'd be happy to watch Kaanja in concert.
And Voyager. And Lord of the Lost. And Loreen. And Alika...

We went to the 2nd semi final rehearsal on Thursday (first ever Eurovision for us!) and I must say we were well impressed by the whole thing.

So much better seeing the acts in person than on TV, the sub-bass, lighting and pyrotechnics! They had a pretty good sound system it has to be said!

Voyager were hugely entertaining!
