Music That Really Winds You Up

Unread post by Simon Hickie »

I had the misfortune to hear a couple of tracks by Melanie De Biasio from the album No Deal at a friend's music evening this week. Best summarised as close miked vocals sung in a slow and sultry way with jazzy overtones, I found it to be a heap of pretentious, self-indulgent, exhibitionist drivel and for the first time in ten years of such music evenings almost had to leave the room.

So what else provokes such negative emotions amongst our members?

Michael Jackson tracks usually get me to turn the radio off for 5 minutes.

But really the worst music ever is Dutch 'levenslied' (songs from life) like this from national hero Andre Hazes (now deceased)

Avant Garde Jazz: the sort of stuff that as George Melly once put it, "sounds like a fire in a pet shop"
Somebody’s telling me the latest scandals.

Throbbing Gristle.

Live video here

I like it for art's sake, but I have been told that they are now banned from home and office when other human beings, or dogs, or cats are present.
